The following are the eligibility criteria, which include specific deprivation scores and different priority lists:
To qualify for assistance under this scheme, an applicant must reside in a household located in a rural area that has no housing or is currently living in a kutcha dwelling with 0, 1, or 2 rooms made from non-permanent materials (kutcha walls and roof). This scheme is intended solely for families without adequate housing. Assistance cannot be granted to families residing in pucca (permanent) dwellings.
After establishing eligibility according to the SECC 2011 data deprivation indices and Awaas+ survey, eligible households ranked and verified prior to the Gram Sabha meeting. Houseless (fully houseless) families, manual scavengers, released bonded labourers, primitive tribes, landless daily wagers, and households who do not have an adult member of working age (ages 16 to 59) and socially disadvantaged (SC, ST, OBC and minorities) groups received first priority.

PMAY-G is a rural housing scheme of the Government of India that was introduced in April 2016 to provide financial support for building pucca houses with basic facilities for eligible households in the country. The scheme aims to achieve the goal of effective housing for all rural areas.
Yes, the Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of PMAY-G from 2024-25 through 2028-29, providing funding for 2 crore additional rural homes under the existing unit assistance framework.
Beneficiaries will continue to receive the same level of funding under PMAY-G during the extended project period at Rs.1.20 lakh for plain areas and Rs.1.30 lakh for north-eastern and hilly states.
The SECC 2011 data and Awaas+ survey are used to provide the basis for identifying beneficiaries for PMAY-G. Eligible households must be defined as either being unable to reside in a home or living in kutcha homes, with the exception of being subject to the guidelines and verification of ineligible household.
An applicant/household will automatically be excluded from PMAY-G if they are ineligible under any of the criteria set forth by the program. The support criteria include but are not limited to home ownership; ownership of a motor vehicle; ownership of a KCC with a credit limit of more than Rs. 50,000; payment of income or professional taxes; ownership of a refrigerator or landline telephone, or a significant amount of irrigated land.
The Gram Sabha conducts an annual check of the priority list of persons who qualify for assistance with building pucca houses using the SYCC and/or SECC records.
You can review the number of completed pucca houses in each state and related annual totals by accessing PMAY-G physical progress reports on the monitoring dashboards for the PMAY-G programme.
The government is likely to focus more on affordable housing, with predictions of more funding through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and housing loan subsidies in Budget 2025. If these plans are realized, it could boost the housing finance sector and increase investor interest in related stocks.
Since the election results were announced on June 4, housing finance companies have seen a significant increase in their stock prices. Companies like LIC Housing Finance, Can Fin Homes, HUDCO, PNB Housing Finance, Home First, Aptus Value Housing, and Aavas Financiers have seen their shares rise by 46 percent, outpacing the Nifty 50's 12% increase.
